DIS landed safely in the late afternoon, before a quick transfer to the hotel. Anticipation for Disneyland is brewing so there’s an early night in store, before a very lively day!
it was a crispy morning with a ‘feels like’ 3 degrees Celsius in Tokyo. The group layered up and bounced into Disneyland, where they bumped into all of their favourite characters! Afterwards we began the journey north to Hakuba. A quick dinner stop and into the snow we go!
A thrilling first day on the slopes after record breaking snowfall in the Hakuba region. After a sharp start - breakfast, fitting, briefing then groupings - the DIS team took to the slopes and Hakuba didn’t know what hit it. DIS students paraded their Ski Dubai skills all over the mountain. The afternoon finished with happy instructors, tired students and shredded snow. This evening there was still time for the daily awards and a quick sledging outing before a well earned early night. Bring on day 2!
The students hit the slopes hard today with visible improvements across all groups as they got to grips with the powdery snow. The day was capped off with a cinema night where teachers introduced the students to a 90’s movie classic… Cool Runnings!
Day 3 in the snow kicked off with a bang as the overnight snowfall left a new pillow of powder on the slopes. Perfect learning conditions meant rapid improvement - our beginner snowboarders were up and about exploring the mountain with growing confidence. Meanwhile, the advanced skiers were zooming across several pistes. The groups also enjoyed the novelty of having their lunch on the mountain!
.Tricks and turns are now out in abundance and DIS students are really going for it! We’ve seen 180’s, 360’s, jumps, forest exploring and more backward skiing than forward. The word ‘goofy’ refers to the stance that some of our boarders prefer, and also points to some of the antics the advanced boarders got up to at altitude! Some students visited the foot onsen before the campfire & snowman competition!
The last day brought wind & blizzards which made for the most amazing untouched powder conditions. It just kept falling! In the evening, students were treated to their own private Taiko drumming performance and even got the chance to perform themselves. The evening finished with a Q&A and picture opportunity with the local children & performers. A wholesome evening!
