The girls have been blown away by the friendly welcome from our Sri Lankan hosts. Both Vishaka Ladies College and St Bridget’s School were worthy opponents who showed excellent sportsmanship throughout.
All three rugby age groups got their first taste of Sri Lankan opposition at Havelocks Stadium on Monday afternoon. In the opening matches against Zahira College our tourists were very impressed by the skillset, athleticism and competitiveness of their counterparts which made for three very testing encounters.
The groups combined for a tour of the city on Monday, stopping at Independence Square and The National History Museum and seeing the bustling Pettah Market, Red Mosque and Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.
The U13’s celebrated their best performance of the tour with a convincing win over Bishop’s College on Tuesday. The girls now go into their final day of competition high on confidence and on the ascent.
The boys were put through their paces on Tuesday with a Mr Ives special at Havelocks Stadium. A fantastic effort from every player in humid conditions!
Over the past two days the girls have had the pleasure of working with Deshabandu K Thilaka Jinadasa - the first ever female Sri Lankan Olympian and former head coach of the Mauritius and Sri Lanka national teams. Her wise words and disciplined approach was well received and both players and coaches left with an unforgettable experience. Thank you Thili!
Repton rugby and netball teams finished their final round of challenge matches with an emphatic final day win streak! 3 wins from 3 on the rugby field and a combined victory from the U13 & U14 netball teams. Strong finish!
The group said goodbye to Colombo this morning and hot-wheeled it down to the South Province to ride the world famous Welligama Bay waves before exploring the stunning Dutch Fort in Galle.
students shared their penultimate breakfast with wild turtles before testing their skills in an ultra-competitive and ultra-contentious volleyball tournament at the resort. We moved on to learn about the harrowing Tsunami of 26th Dec 2004 before meeting some newly hatched turtles.
the end of the tour was marked with an exciting awards evening where comments on effort, behaviour, spirit and teamwork featured aplenty. The award winners below are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this very special group from Repton.
