We have landed! After a long flight through the night, the group were straight into some activities, visiting Gardens By The Bay.
The group are in amazing spirits and are looking forward to an amazing week. Stayed tuned for daily updates!
The group were up nice and sharp today before heading onto their bus towards the Malaysian border after their night in Singapore.
They will spend the morning traveling on different vessels in order to get to Melina Beach before having the afternoon getting a snorkeling introduction.
Melina Beach - we have arrived! Beautiful setting for an amazing week.
We took a boat to island, walked to the resort, snorkeled including reef sharks then survey techniques session in treehouse classroom. What a day!
The group got a chance to explore the rainforest today and conduct some experiments and survey techniques. The difference of bringing these survey techniques to life outside of the classroom is amazing!
It was back to the classroom to take some of our learnings from the morning session into theory. We covered topics ranging from the coral reef to mangroves. A low key evening before some snorkeling adventures tomorrow morning!
We were geared up this AM and ready to explore the coral reefs. The focus was to survey the impact of tourism and humans on the reefs - what an amazing opportunity!
Some of the action shots underwater from today!
Big day of data collection today - the students have been in the ecosystems of their choice preparing their data for the reports the will finish at the back end of the trip.
After a quick lunch break, the students were getting the sleeves rolled up again to capture more data across mangroves and rainforest ecosystems.
After a busy day of data collection, the students got another chance to appreciate the outdoors with an incredible beach bonfire. There are even rumours that Bear Grylls came past and started the fire with his bare hands…..
This morning acts as our last chance to capture some data from Melina Beach as we will start moving towards our new accommodation this afternoon. After a week of online learning for other pupils back in Dubai, this has really brought the Ecology course to life for the group here in Malaysia.
We got a final change to do some reef restoration this AM before we leave the island - what a wholesome activity!
We start our journey away from the hub of our trip at Melina Beach and back to the mainland of Malaysia. We will spend the night at Sea Horizon on the coast, but will get their via ferry and bus - so it’s some downtime for the pupils as they make this journey!
We were back on the mainland of Malaysia last night and stayed at Sea Horizon. This morning we got to explore our surroundings before packing up and heading towards the border. We will be flying at 21:00 at Singapore airport tonight.
