Fairgreen have landed! The group have checked into the wonderful Hikka Resort and are getting themselves ready for an amazing week in the Southern Province. Plenty more to come - stay tuned!
The group are up and raring to go. On the schedule today is a visit to our partner school and a surf lesson - it is going to be epic!
We visited a local school in Sri Lanka and got the chance to speak with some of the students in their classrooms. It feels like a long way from Dubai! We also got the chance to get our hands dirty and do some painting of the classroom walls - we hope our short stay was beneficial to the school!
We had our first surf lesson this afternoon which was an amazing experience. So many of the students managed to get up to their feet! All of our footage is video - check out @twedex on Instagram for snippets!
We are back to the ocean this morning for our second surfing lesson. Lots of the students were able to improve on their performance from yesterday - even Mr McSweeney managed to get on his feet!
An important part of our trips to Sri Lanka is immersing the students into projects where they can make an impact. Despite having beautiful beaches, often they can gather lots of debris from the ocean as well as waste & litter left behind by humans. A great team building activity and Hikka Beach looked amazing afterwards!
We got a chance to visit a local turtle sanctuary where pupils got hands on with some of the turtles! We helped out by cleaning some of the large water baths that the turtles stay in after birth before setting them into the ocean (as a race - who do you think had the fastest turtle?).
We hit the waves for our final surf lesson of our time here in Sri Lanka. The progress in the three lessons has been amazing - what a cool skill to learn!
As it was our final full night in Sri Lanka, we got the group to see our traditional Sri Lankan performance in front of this amazing bonfire. A lovely chance for the students to reflect on a great trip!
On our final morning we got a chance to visit another local school and get involved in some of their break time games. They even got Mr McSweeney to produce his fast bowl during a cricket game! A lovely opportunity for the students to mix and witness a school day for Sri Lankan pupils.
Our final surprise stop on the trip was to see the beautiful elephants. We even managed to get a group photo with our new friend!
We are now on our way to the airport and are due to land in Dubai on schedule. I’m sure you are keen to see your children again - thanks for following along!
